The Colorado Youth Corps Association (CYCA) promotes youth development and conservation by strengthening Colorado corps. CYCA develops private, federal and state fee-for-service funds and other resources for youth corps, manages an accreditation program to assure uniform principles and practices across all the youth corps programs, and provides technical assistance, networking, strategic communication and advocacy services to corps.

Position Description:

The CYCA Board of Directors recently approved a multi-year fund development plan that includes ambitious fundraising goals from sources currently under-represented in CYCA’s income stream. The Development Associate will prospect, cultivate, and steward individual donors, corporate donors, and foundations, and implement select special events based on the fund development plan. The Development Associate will work closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors’ fundraising committee. With support of the Executive Director and Board of Directors, the Development Associate will increase discretionary income from 15% to 40% over the course of three years.

Note: This position is currently funded at 20 hours per week for 12 months. However, the position could renew for additional years and expand to a full-time position based on fund availability.

Tasks:

Planning – Using CYCA’s fund development plan, identify specific tactics and quarterly deliverables to assure maximum success.

Individual Donors – Manage CYCA’s individual donor campaign for donors of all levels of giving using traditional and social networking tools including, but not limited to: direct mail, in-person, online, and workplace giving opportunities. Work with the Executive Director to identify, research, design outreach materials, and implement the campaign and on-going donor acknowledgement.

Corporate Giving – Work with the board of directors, Executive Director, and youth corps directors to design corporate engagement opportunities and collaborative fundraising options including operational support, program support, and event sponsorship. Prospect, cultivate, and steward corporate donors. Develop targeted informational materials, follow-up with potential donors, and acknowledge current donors.

Foundation – Research, approach, and conduct follow up and reporting with local, regional, statewide and national foundations that are most likely to support CYCA’s mission and programs.

Marketing and Social Media – Coordinate all fundraising efforts with CYCA’s electronic marketing efforts including monthly e-newsletter, homepage, Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, and traditional media.

Special Events – Design, plan, and implement select special events as determined by the board of directors fundraising committee.

Collaboration – Perform work in full collaboration with youth corps directors, youth corps development staff, and CYCA’s Board of Directors fundraising committee. Maintain regular communication with member corps related to fundraising activities and staff the fundraising committee.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.

  • Three years direct, relevant, fundraising experience required, focus on major donors and corporate giving preferred.
  • Grant writing experience required.
  • Experience planning and implementing special events.
  • Background in donor management systems.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Facebook, PowerPoint, databases, email, and the internet.
  • Good interpersonal skills, team-oriented, customer-service focus, enjoys working with others.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Professional, self-directed, highly motivated, reliable, great attention to detail, with a results and solution oriented perspective, organized, flexible with strong time-management skill.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Some travel required.

    Manual Functions:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to operate objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to focus. The employee is often required to drive a CYCA vehicle (manual transmission) or a personal vehicle.
