From I-90: Take I-90 East or West to I-87 (Northway) North, follow directions for I-87.
From I-87 North or South: Take I-87 to Exit 2W (Route 5 West). Travel west approximately 2 miles and turn left at the light onto Route 155 South (New Karner Road). Travel approximately 1 mile to the second light . Trailhead #1 (Karner Barrens East) is on your left just past the light. Trailhead #7 (Madison Avenue Pinelands) is another 0.25 miles at the third light where you turn right and travel to the trailhead at the end of Madison Avenue Extension.

Description

The Albany Pine Bush is one of the best remaining examples of an inland pine barrens environment in the world. This gently rolling sand-plain is home to a unique variety of rare plants and animals including the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly.

While the Albany Pine Bush provides a special habitat for many plants and animals it also provides visitors with an assortment of non-motorized recreational opportunities including hiking, jogging, nature study, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, mountain biking, and hunting.
