Location: In Ashley NF. From Scofield 6 mi. N along W side of reservoir to FS Rd. 123 to trailhead.
Located across the Moon Lake dam.
The trail begins at the Moon Lake Dam and Lake Fork Road junction. It crosses the dam and follows the shoreline for the first half mile. The trail trends east, parallel to Fish Creek for about four miles starting at an altitude of 8,100 feet and climbing rather rapidly to 10,300 feet at the junction with the Swasey Hole Trail. While climbing or descending the trail, the user is exposed to some outstanding views of Moon Lake and the Lake Fork Drainage above and below the Lake, and excellent views of Brown Duck Basin within the High Uintas Primitive area can be seen at several vistas. The trail passes through a ponderosa pine, mountain mahogany and juniper zone; aspen zone; open parks; lodgepole pine zone; alpine fir and spruce zone; to a subalpine park. The proposed Arboretum Trail can highlight a number of tree and shrub species existing together in a natural amphitheater of high sandstone and conglomerate cliffs.
