From Wise River take forest Hwy 93 - the Pioneer Mts. Scenic Byway south approximately 5 miles to the Shine Creek trailhead (north end). Or 17.2 miles to Lacy Creek Road, TR and 3.5 miles to end of road at Lacy Creek trailhead (south end).

Description

The trail passes through the West Pioneer Wilderness Study Area and provides the opportunity for an extended multi-day trail experience for those camping along the trail. Beautiful backcountry experience.

The trail climbs from Shine Creek steeply for 4 miles to Shine Mt top Follows crest of W. Pioneer Mts. through pine forests with many open views. Fishing lakes near trail. Deer, elk, mountain goat may be seen. Open views of mountain ranges/valleys
