The 20th American Trails National Symposium will be held in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Nov. 14-17, 2010.

Information on flying to Chattanooga, Tennessee and surrounding airports, airport shuttles and cabs, car rental, and transportation for persons with special needs. If you are driving, three major interstates (I-75, I-59, I-24) enable over half the nation's population to reach Chattanooga in one day's drive.

The Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA) flies directly into Chattanooga, Tennessee and is a short 25-minute taxi ride from downtown Chattanooga. The airport provides direct or one-stop service to over 1000 cities. Carriers include Delta, US Airways Express, American Eagle, and Allegiant Air. The airport is currently expanding its flight itineraries and will include service to Detroit beginning in September. Check the website for regular updates regarding new destinations.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) in Atlanta, Georgia is just two hours away by car or shuttle. (Please see Groome Transportation under Shuttles for more information). Hartsfield-Jackson is Delta’s hub airport. Most major carriers fly through Atlanta and they offer numerous rental car agencies. It is recommended that you make a reservation for a rental car in advance.

Nashville International Airport (BNA) located in Nashville, Tennessee is also a two-hour drive by car or shuttle to downtown Chattanooga. (Please see Groome Transportation under Shuttles for more information.) Major carriers include American, Continental, Delta, Frontier, US Airways, and Southwest Airlines. The airport also has rental car agencies for you to use. It is recommended that you make a reservation for a rental car in advance.

Other nearby airports are McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) in Knoxville, Tennessee, which is an hour and a half drive to downtown Chattanooga, and the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) in Birmingham, Alabama, which is a two hour car drive away.

Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport


Enterprise Rent-A-Car has been chosen as the official car rental company for the 20th National Trails Symposium with locations at the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA), Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL), and in downtown Chattanooga, as well as at McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) and Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM). Hotel Shuttles from CHATTANOOGA Metropolitan Airport



There are two cab companies that can provide transportation to and from the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport.

The average rate from the Chattanooga airport to downtown is $28.

Shuttle Services from ATLANTA and NASHVILLE airports

Groome Transportation- (423) 954-1400 or 1-800-896-9928. Picks up at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and Nashville International Airport and drops off at the Groome Transportation depot, 15 minutes from downtown Chattanooga - $73 roundtrip. See taxi services listed above to complete your transportation to your hotel. Reservations are required. Travel time from the Atlanta airport as well as from the Nashville airport to Chattanooga is two hours. Shuttles begin leaving Chattanooga at 3:00 am and run once an hour on the hour until 9:00 p.m. Shuttles run from Atlanta and Nashville to Chattanooga beginning at 6:00 am and continues every hour on the hour until midnight. (If you need accessibility assistance, please call at least 24 hours in advance to make your reservation.)


Free electric shuttle

Chattanooga has a free electric shuttle run by the Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) that runs downtown to various attractions, including the Chattanooga Convention Center and all three of the host hotels for the Symposium. Look for the green and yellow CARTA signs around town that designate where the shuttle stops are located.
