American Trails chair rides 2000-mile Millennium trail

The chair of American Trails, Kay Lloyd, along with her husband Dale completed a 2000-mile snowmobile ride on the Great Western Trail to celebrate its nomination as a National Millennium Trail. They rode 60 to140 miles a day on the trail, which runs from Canada to Mexico.

They began their ride from Eureka, Montana, on February 7 and ended February 25 near the Grand Canyon. The ride was sponsored in part by American Express, local snowmobile clubs, and dealers from four snowmobile manufacturers.

In 1994 Kay participated in a fund raising ride on the historic Iditarod Trail. She has led snowmobiling organizations for the past 17 years and was appointed by the White House to represent American Trails on the Millennium Trails working group. Kay's responsibility is to assist with the follow through of Millennium Trail celebrations. "The Great Western Trail is the first of 16 trail celebrations that will acknowledge the importance of trails in our lives," said Kay.
