The Cary Bayou Trail, formerly known as the J.C. Holloway Park Ð W.L. Jenkins Park Trail, was originally constructed in 1977 to connect the two parks with a five-foot wide asphalt trail through a heavily wooded area. The trail crossed Cary Bayou with two four-foot wide bridges and a 10-foot wide wooden bridge at the boundary of the two parks. The Phase I project was constructed with over 6,200 feet of decomposed granite trail and was completed with the aid of RTP funds administered by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 2000.

Phase II of the trail consisted of 2,820 feet of renovated granite trail, 2,091 feet of new granite trail and 402 feet of concrete connecting trail and was completed with funds from a 2001 RTP award. The majority of the Phase II trail construction took place in Jenkins Park, home to baseball facilities, a pavilion, a playground, picnic facilities and a lighted skate park.

The trail is handicapped accessible and two new accessible drinking fountains and six new park benches were installed.

The renovation of the trail has more than doubled its use and the City's local high schools use it as a cross-country race site.
