Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado seeks Deputy Director for Development

Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) seeks an entrepreneurial minded professional with 7+years of development success for its Deputy Director for Development. Candidates must have exceptional interpersonal communication skills, be knowledgeable about trends in fund raising, and experienced in managing comprehensive funding strategies including major donor cultivation, corporate gift solicitation, annual appeals, prospect research and foundation stewardship. The Deputy Director for Development (DDD )is responsible for planning, directing, and implementing a comprehensive development program that incorporates best practices and meets goals for operations, capital needs and program support. The position is primarily externally-oriented and serves as one of VOC's senior-level directors. The DDD is expected to conceptualize new and appropriate development strategies and translate them into achievable plans;set and meet annual fund-raising goals; identify new prospects in foundation, corporate, and individual donor arenas;oversee development campaigns;direct donor recognitions and special events;directly supervise, mentor and direct other development team members;design and implement annual and multi-year development plans;and, work effectively with VOC 's leadership team and Board members. The DDD also supervises the Director of Marketing in implementing VOC's outreach efforts and office administrative staff who support development efforts. The DDD reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with the Deputy Director of Community Stewardship and Deputy Director of the Outdoor Stewardship Institute in addition to staffing the Development Committee of the VOC Board of Directors.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree. Master 's degree in non-profit management or related field desired. Minimum of 7 years of relevant development and management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with grant writing, corporate sponsorships, membership programs, major donor solicitation, and donor relations.
  • Enthusiastic about networking and establishing lasting relationships with diverse funders.
  • Considerable experience with non profit management and working with volunteers.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communications skills for presentations, discussions and correspondence with donors and prospects.
  • Leadership and motivational skills.
  • People person and team player.
  • A self-starter with a track record in successfully managing projects from inception through implementation.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of personalities on a range of topics.
  • Able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite (Access, Excel, and Outlook)and web based research tools.
  • Work well with minimal supervision.
  • Energy, initiative and enthusiasm.
  • Commitment to environmental issues and volunteerism.
