Jefferson County Open Space, Colorado, has seasonal trail work openings

Job Title and Recruitment Number: Seasonal Trails Technician/29-29*

Range of Consideration: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour

*This is a temporary position to last until approximately October 1, 2009, work schedule will be four 10 hour days Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday.

Purpose: Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and unskilled work in the construction, maintenance, repair and restoration of Open Space park trails and related facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work involves constructing trails, using heavy equipment and power tools. Employee is responsible for maintaining trails, installing erosion control devices and inspecting the trail system. Work also involves vegetation control, snow removal, constructing stairs, tiewalls and fencing and assisting in the supervision of Youth Work Program field crews and Volunteer Program.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent supplemented with additional course work in Natural Resource Management, Outdoor Recreation, Park Maintenance or related field preferred and minimum of one year of experience in youth supervision and/or trail maintenance/construction preferred.

Special Requirements: Must have a valid driverís license, if you are from out of state, you must have a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire date, and you must not have any major violations, nor more than one DUI, DWI, DWAI conviction in the past three years.; must be available to work irregular hours, to include weekends, evenings and holidays. Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment, including skidsteer, roller/compactor, water pump, trail blazer, turf blazer, tractor, snowplow, snowmobiles, trencher, sandblaster, etc. Requires ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.


Job Title and Recruitment Number: YWP Supervisor/29-35*

Division: Open Space Hiring Range: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour

*These are temporary positions from 6-1-09 through 7-30-09, work schedule will be 9 hours days Monday through Thursday and an 8 hour day every other Friday.

Purpose: Under general supervision, performs administrative and supervisory duties organizing, operating and overseeing the Summer Youth Work Program for the Open Space Division.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work involves training crew leaders and laborers, solving problems, counseling and ensuring a safe and positive working environment. Employee is responsible for completing daily work reports, verifying attendance and maintaining inventories.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent supplemented with additional course work in Natural Resource Management, Outdoor Recreation, Park Maintenance or a related field and minimum of one year experience in youth supervision and/or trail maintenance/construction preferred.

Special Requirements: Must possess valid Colorado driverís license by hire date; in order to be approved you must have no more than three convictions, no major violations and no suspension for moving violations in the past three years; requires ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are those for Heavy Work. Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment, including trucks, grubbing tools, rakes shovels, etc. 1/29/09-35


Job Title and Recruitment Number: YWP Crew Leader/29-33*

Division: Open Space Hiring Range: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour

*These are temporary positions available 6-1-09 to 7-30-09, work schedule will be 9 hour days Monday through Thursday and an 8 hour day every other Friday.

Purpose: Under general supervision, performs administrative and limited supervisory duties in directing the day-to-day activities of Youth Work Program laborers performing trail maintenance and construction for the Open Space Division.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work involves providing lead work supervision to a crew consisting of 8-10 teenagers. Employee is also responsible for ensuring that safety policies and procedures are communicated and adhered to, ensuring compliance with established standards.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent supplemented with additional course work in Natural Resource Management and experience in youth supervision and/or trail maintenance/construction preferred. Ability to read operating instructions and warning labels strongly desired.

Special Requirements: Must possess valid Colorado driverís license by hire date; in order to be approved you must have no more than three convictions, no major violations and no suspension for moving violations in the past three years; must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment, including trucks, grubbing tools, rakes, shovels, etc. Requires ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.


Job Title and Recruitment Number: YWP Crew Leader/Bus Driver/29-30*

Range of Consideration: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour

*These are temporary positions available 6-1-09 to 7-30-09, work schedule will be 9 hour days Monday through Thursday and an 8 hour day every other Friday.

Purpose: Under general supervision, performs administrative and limited supervisory duties in directing the day-to-day activities of Youth Work Program laborers performing trail maintenance and construction for the Open Space Division.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work involves operating a bus to transport Youth Work Program participants to worksites and providing lead work supervision to a crew consisting of 8-10 teenagers and operating vehicles to transport participants and equipment to and from work sites. Employee is also responsible for ensuring that safety policies and procedures are communicated and adhered to, ensuring compliance with established standards.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent supplemented with additional course work in Natural Resource Management, Outdoor Recreation, Park Maintenance or related field preferred and minimum of one year of experience in youth supervision and/or trail maintenance/construction preferred. An ability to read operating instructions and warning labels.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment, including buses, trucks, grubbing tools, rakes, shovels, etc. Requires ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
