Hosted by AmericanTrails.org Operations Manager for Calif. open space district Application Deadline: July 9, 2007 The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, located in Los Altos, California, is a public agency covering 550 square miles in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, including a small portion of Santa Cruz County. A collaborative team of 90 regular field and office employees, (plus seasonals and interns), the District owns and manages more than 55,000 acres in 25 open space preserves. The District is seeking an individual to manage, plan and coordinate all ranger, maintenance/construction, and resource management activities, and operations for the District's open space areas; coordinate and facilitate the use of District lands for low intensity public access; and coordinate assigned activities with other departments, outside agencies, and the public. This at-will position is a member of the District's management team, who will be a hands-on manager who builds consensus within their direct responsibility for 2 field offices and 53 employees as well as with peers, outside agencies and the Board. A BA degree from an accredited college or university (or equivalent) with desired major course work in parks/recreation administration, natural resource management, forestry, or a related field; plus six years of increasingly responsible experience in the protection, operation or maintenance of a park, forest, or public recreation area supplemented by two years of supervisory or management responsibility is essential. Possession of a valid California driver license; valid public safety CPF certificate; and ability to meet the certification requirements of California Penal Code section 832 for appointment as a peace officer are required.
