Bicycle Colorado seeks Development Director

The Organization: Bicycle Colorado is a statewide bicycling organization dedicated to building a bicycle-friendly Colorado. The non-profit celebrates its sixteenth anniversary and is growing due to effective campaigns and programs serving the needs of bicyclists across the state.

The core programs in Bicycle Colorado's strategic plan are Safe Routes to School, Complete Streets, Mountain Bike Trail Pros, and Share the Road. Improving safety and conditions for bicyclists is central to every campaign.

The past year has seen Bicycle Colorado's membership reach 5,000 individuals and over 130 businesses/organizations. Its annual Gala Celebration has sold out for the last four years featuring the Governor of Colorado, the Mayor of Denver, and Colorado bicycle racing legends. Plans for additional growth include increased donor relations and development.

Bicycle Colorado's offices are located conveniently in vibrant downtown Denver near bike paths, light rail lines, and bus stations. Indoor bicycle parking is provided.

The Position: Reporting to the Executive Director, the selected candidate will be responsible for increasing the revenue stream to better enable Bicycle Colorado to achieve its strategic objectives. This person will be responsible for nurturing relationships with current members/donors/sponsors, diversifying and increasing the contribution base, and developing new partnerships and sources of revenue.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing, updating and leading the team in executing the organization's fundraising plan
  • Identifying, researching, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual, foundation and corporate donors
  • Developing a major individual donor program, including cultivation and fundraising events
  • Overseeing writing for proposals, appeals, and corporate member communications
  • Managing fundraising messaging and content development
  • Hiring, supervising, and managing fundraising and membership services staff
  • Creating and managing the fundraising budget

Background Required:

  • At least five years of development experience
  • Successfully building, or dramatically advancing, a comprehensive fundraising program
  • Experience leading and supervising a team of staff
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience recruiting and motivating boards and volunteers for fundraising initiatives
  • Attention to detail with strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Experience with fundraising databases and other fundraising software
  • The successful candidate will be a self-directed, energetic personality who is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively. Experience and contacts in the active outdoor recreation industry and Colorado bicycling community are highly desired
  • Experience with membership organizations and managing events
  • Background with producing marketing communication materials

  • Professional, persuasive, and well spoken
  • Skillful presenter with public speaking experience
  • Excellent initiative, with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding comunications skills, both verbal and written
  • Enthusiasm for bicycling a must
  • Some travel (including overnight) is required

Compensation: A base salary in the $50,000 range, plus bonus based on the organization's overall performance, will be awarded the successful candidate. Health insurance, vacation, and retirement plan match included in package.
