The Pacific Northwest Region may be advertising the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail Program Coordinator position. This position will serve as the administrator for the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail (PNNST) and will have full responsibility for all aspects of the Trail’s management including: planning, land acquisition, partnerships and resource management.
The purpose of the outreach is to generate interest in the position, determine at what grade(s) the position is advertised, and to identify where applicants may want to be duty stationed. The position is currently being classified and is expected to be graded at the GS-12 level. All units in Region 6 where the PNNST is located have volunteered to host the position. Possible duty station locations include the following units and locations: Olympic, Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie, Okanogan-Wenatchee, Colville and Region 6 Headquarters in Portland, OR.

The Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail:
Established by Congress, March 2009, through P.L. 111-11, the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail is a distinctive recreation resource, offering a variety of back-country and outdoor experiences for trail enthusiasts across the country and around the globe. For over 1200-miles, running from the Continental Divide to the Pacific Ocean, the Trail ranks among the most scenic trails in the world. It transverses the Rocky Mountains, Selkirk Mountains, Pasayten Wilderness, North Cascades, Olympic Mountains, and the Pacific Wilderness Coast, crossing three National Parks and seven National Forests finishing at the Pacific Ocean, on Washington's Olympic Peninsula. The USDA Forest Service, Pacific Northwest Region is identified as the lead management authority for all aspects of trail management.
