THE ARIZONA TRAIL ASSOCIATION (ATA). The mission of the ATA is to preserve, protect, promote and sustain the Arizona Trail. The 1000+ member organization is primarily volunteer led, with a small part-time staff. The Arizona Trail is one of eleven National Scenic Trails in the United States, and crosses Arizona for more than 800 miles from Mexico to Utah. It is a primarily a non-motorized, multi-use recreational resource travelling through some of the most scenic landscapes in the United States. More information may be found at www.aztrail.org
POSITION DETAILS: The Executive Director is expected to carry out the mission and goals of the Association in concert with the public, the Board of Directors, the membership, the U.S. Forest Service and other governmental and private sector partners. The position’s primary responsibilities include improving and effectively managing the ATA’s fund raising and revenue producing programs, membership programs, and administrative operations. The position will also provide general administrative oversight of the Trail Director.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years professional experience in a strong management leadership position of a small or large non profit or private entity. Qualified candidates are desired to have proven success in producing income or fundraising (major gifts, membership recruitment and retention, corporate partnerships), working with governmental partners and volunteers. Experience in outdoor recreation is desirable. A love of the outdoors is a must.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Ability to cultivate and secure funding resources and partnerships; outstanding interpersonal skills in leadership, management of volunteers and staff, proven fiscal acumen and experience; willingness to perform the wide range of tasks that a small organization imposes.
LOCATION: The Arizona Trail Association (ATA) office is in Phoenix, Arizona. Working from other Arizona cities can be discussed.

SALARY: The Board envisions the Executive Director working irregular hours but an average of 32 hours per week. Salary: $46,000.
