Gregory Miller is new President of American Hiking Society

By Bob Papp, Board Chair, American Hiking Society

On behalf of the board and staff of American Hiking Society, I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Gregory A. Miller as our new President, effective March 14th. Dr. Miller brings to this position more than twenty years of experience in conservation and natural resources program development. This includes an impressive track record of exemplary public-private partnerships, outstanding fund raising and non-profit management experience, and a passion for hiking, as evidenced by his many miles logged on North and South American trails.

Greg most recently served as Executive Vice President at EnDyna, Inc., a global environmental consulting firm. For over 15 years prior, he led a distinguished executive career as a Division Vice President at The Nature Conservancy, where he headed development of the South America conservation portfolio. Greg has served on the boards of the global Biodiversity Support Program and The International Ecotourism Society, and was an environmental advisor for the Latin America and Caribbean Bureau of the U.S. Agency for International Development.

"It is an honor for me to assume leadership of American Hiking at a critical time for the environmental and recreational movement," states Greg. "Hiking is one of the best ways to bring us closer to nature, family and friends, and ourselves. I am eager to strengthen our existing program base, diversify our membership, and expand our recreation-conservation partnerships."

A native of California, Greg is fluent in Spanish and holds a Ph.D. in Ecology as well as a Science, Engineering, and Diplomacy Post-Doctoral Fellowship through the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Greg lived in the Galapagos Islands and the Andes for many years and has held a lifelong commitment to boy scouting and the outdoors.

As the national voice for America's hikers, American Hiking Society promotes and protects foot trails and the hiking experience. I know Greg would welcome a conversation with you in the near future. He can be reached at gmiller@americanhiking.org or (301) 565-6704, ex. 204.
